Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy sets out the basis on which personal data is collected, processed, and transferred in connection with your use of this website. It is written in plain language where possible; where GDPR-specific terminology is used, it carries the meaning assigned to it by Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation).
Controller
The data controller for the purposes of Article 4(7) GDPR is Wolphram, an independent laboratory based in Europe. For all data protection enquiries, contact contact@wolphram.com.
Hosting and infrastructure
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When you visit any page, your browser establishes a connection to Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare processes your IP address, request path, browser user agent, and timestamp as part of its content delivery infrastructure. Wolphram does not configure custom access or request logs. Cloudflare acts as a data processor within the meaning of Article 4(8) GDPR in respect of any personal data it processes on Wolphram's behalf; its own Privacy Policy governs retention and onward processing on Cloudflare's end.
The AI tooltip — /api/tooltip
This website includes an optional feature: select any text on the page and a tooltip generates a brief explanation. When you activate this feature, the following personal data is processed:
| Data | Recipient / processor | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| The text you selected (may constitute personal data if it contains identifying information) | Groq, Inc. (GroqCloud) — AI inference, United States | Generation of the explanation |
| A search query derived from your selection (only when general knowledge retrieval is required) | Tavily, Inc. — web search API, United States | Retrieval of relevant external information |
Wolphram does not log, store, or retain any of this data. The selected text is forwarded to Groq and, where applicable, Tavily; a response is returned; nothing is persisted by Wolphram. Each of Groq and Tavily acts as an independent data controller or sub-processor in respect of data they receive and are subject to their respective privacy policies.
Lawful basis. Processing is carried out on the basis of your consent within the meaning of Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, expressed through your deliberate use of the feature. The feature is entirely opt-in and only activates when you select text.
International transfers. Data is processed in the United States, where Groq and Tavily operate. Transfers to the United States constitute a transfer of personal data to a third country within the meaning of Chapter V GDPR. Such transfers are made pursuant to standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission under Article 46(2)(c) GDPR, as incorporated into the contractual terms of those providers, or on the basis of your explicit consent under Article 49(1)(a) GDPR.
Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies, deploys no analytics scripts, and uses no tracking pixels or browser fingerprinting techniques. No user accounts exist. No data is written to browser storage by this website beyond what the browser itself performs by default.
Third-party fonts
The Geist typeface is loaded from Google Fonts. This causes your browser to establish a connection to Google's servers, which may result in Google processing your IP address and other request metadata as a controller in its own right. If you prefer to prevent this request, a browser extension that blocks Google Fonts will intercept it; the website falls back to system sans-serif fonts.
Data subject rights
Under Articles 15 to 22 GDPR (where applicable to you as a data subject), you have the right to request access to, rectification of, and erasure of your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority under Article 77 GDPR.
Because Wolphram does not retain personal data, the practical exercise of most of these rights is directed to Cloudflare, Groq, and Tavily in their respective capacities as controllers or processors. For any data protection request, write to contact@wolphram.com.

Governing law
These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Wolphram is established, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any statutory rights you may have as a consumer under applicable mandatory law that cannot be waived by contract.
Changes
These terms may be updated at any time without prior notice. The date shown at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of this website following any revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
